Finding America: Glacier National Park Pt. 2

Glacier National Park Part 2

Two other hikes in glacier for you. Recommend both. Mount Oberlin is a little scrambly, but short and bank for buck. Ptarmigan Tunnel is an engineering amazement with beautiful view and a “slim” walkway. DO NOT continue reading if you plan on visiting either of these. Well, okay… but the surprise of the place is worth saving.

Mount Oberlin

I am only including one image. I was too busy with focusing on the scramble… One of the many 359 views to be had. Short but sweet hike. Little tricky finding your way in the upper section and a little scrambling with manageable exposure. Loved it.

Looking back from the middle saddle towards Clements Mountain.

Ptarmigan Tunnel Trail

After you take a look at the images you might want to check out it’s history in a link at the end. I found some of the best views could be found by hiking about a mile past the tunnel to see Lake Helen and the amazing water falls above. I usually prefer hiking in solitude (oxymoron these days), but the engineering and history of time gone by. Just imagine…

Breaking out of treeline greeted by a beautiful lake and the upper switch backs to the tunnel.

Who does this? Only 3 months in the making.

The iron doors a more recent addition. Let’s go…

Wait for it…

An exciting walk along the cliff for a look around the bend.

Lake Helen in the distance middle. And back left to the tunnel.

The following images are coming back on the walkway to the tunnel.

Back through the tunnel.
