Finding America: Mount Morgan

Mount Morgan 13,566 ft (4,135 m) More info

I have been working towards some more challenging trips in the mountains that include higher elevations, class 2 (rock scrambles) and/or overight backpacking trips to get there.

This trip included 3 days, 2 nights. Fantastic to have easy access but almost no people in this location.

Route finding was a challenge as well as dealing with the class 2 that included a few sections of large rock piles ducked taped together above the traversing route up on the last main ridgeline.

Being able to find and accomplish this trip to the summit was a challenge, but very rewarding.

Basecamp.

Francis Lake.

Day 2. Summit just peaking over upper ridge, just right of center.

Coming up out of the lake basin, most of the day was spent rock hopping and looking for the best route.

Summit hidden behind this large ridgeline.

From here up, the route scoots just left and below the ridgeline.

Another vantage point of summit ridgeline.

Wide angle view from summit.

Another 180 summit view. Francic lake camp midway down, all the way right.

Lost my gloves on the way up, found them on the way down. Amazing considering there is no trail. Notice the large jumble of boulders on the uphill side.

Afternoon cloud shadows.

Glad to have broken up the hike mileage over a few days.
