 Favorite road trip apps

This page is a quick compilation of apps I have found incredibly useful, especially for full-time Vanlife.

  • IOverlander: free. Number one app for a crowd sourced everything on the road.

  • Sēkr: free. Alternative Boondocking, connections and ideas.

  • Gaia: reasonable subscription fee. Perfect for finding out-of-the-way Boondocking sites as well as hiking trails. A good place to bookmark and save favorite spots and trails. Must download areas before using and have appropriate storage space on phone. Also optimized to save info out of iOverlander and saved maps can give you info ouside of Alltrails maps. Comes in handy when Google or a apple maps don’t have cellular service.

  • All trails, hiking app: subscription fee. Good for getting an idea of hiking trails in new areas and planning trips need to download trail before going limited map and capabilities.

  • MAPS.ME: free driving direction app. Download entire US and you're good to go grade back up to Google maps or Apple Maps.

  • Apple Maps: free. Much like Google maps both are not perfect. Important to have map back up app like MAPS.ME.

  • Boondockers Welcome: subscription fee. Stay for free in peoples yards or driveways. Good addition to Boondocking spots.

  • Hiking Project: free. Useful for more hiking or biking trail ideas.

  • Far Out: pay per hike and or unlimited tiered subscriptions. Extremely detailed crowd sourced, hiking guide, especially useful for remote and long trips. Can be helpful to get recent water availability reports, etc.

  • Google Earth: free. Good for checking out topographical details.

  • https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Mount-Lemmon/forecasts/2791. Especially good for checking out weather for overnight trips.

  • Summit Post: free. Good for more extreme hiking info.

  • RV Parky: free. I use this for sketching out TRIP PLANS, and saving them for a reference.

  • Recreation.gov. Free: necessary for national park reservations

  • Where am I at?: free. A great little app to send exact location to someone.

  • Foreca: free with ads. My new favorite weather app.
