I have been planning this trip for what seems like forever. Mexico! 57 days if all goes as planned. I had hoped to get more Spanish under my belt, but plans for getting my photography and travel gear to a minimum, was a bit daunting. (No surprise to many that know me).
A bit of backstory. I had an opportunity to visit and stay with a friend in Guanajuato, Mexico and it felt like a great opportunity. The color of the city was an immediate visual attraction. Photography has been a great channel to learn more, see more- the thought of getting the "back story" of life in Mexico was perhaps the biggest pull for me.
Researching Guanajuato, it has a great amount of historical importance and currently a popular place for expats and rich cultural events. I won't go into detail here, but hopefully you will get a chance to see what I see when I arrive.
I guess I buried the lead: I will be talking at a local Meetup that I was invited to in Queretaro, Mexico, about 100 miles east- Queteraro looks like it is about half way between Guanajuato and Mexico City. Disclaimer: This is subject to change as probably a lot of what I get into due to logistics, travel delays, etc.

I first began researching a way to meet locals and develop connections from there. I am hoping it will be a more authentic experience as opposed to a guided or ready-made event. I had used Meetup.com previously for coastal see kayaking trips and thought I'd give it a shot for this trip to Mexico.
My mantra will be no expectations, only a desire to get out of my planning mode and be in the moment. Capture moments and try to learn a bit more about another place, people and more about my photography and personal perspectives as I go.
I forgot to mention: I am insanely excited about this trip! I hope to keep sharing here as I go.

After a challenging day or caching a taxi before sun up, then a 2 hour bus ride to Queretaro, I had the most amazing day meeting new photographer friends and gave a short impromptu talk. My connection and friend Luis, a Canon rep in Queretaro, has been an amazing host and we will be doing a photowalk on October 31, again in Queretaro. Stay tuned!

He estado planeando este viaje por lo que parece una eternidad. ¡Méjico! 57 días si todo sale según lo planeado. Tenía la esperanza de tener más español en mi haber, pero los planes para llevar mi equipo de fotografía y viajes al mínimo, fue un poco desalentador. (No es sorpresa para muchos que me conocen).
Un poco de historia de fondo. Tuve la oportunidad de visitar y quedarme con un amigo en Guanajuato, México, y me pareció una gran oportunidad. El color de la ciudad fue una atracción visual inmediata. La fotografía ha sido un gran canal para aprender más, ver más, la idea de obtener la "historia de fondo" de la vida en México fue tal vez la atracción más grande para mí.
Investigando Guanajuato, tiene una gran importancia histórica y actualmente es un lugar popular para expatriados y ricos eventos culturales. No entraré en detalles aquí, pero espero que tengan la oportunidad de ver lo que veo cuando llegue.
Supongo que enterré la iniciativa: hablaré en un Meetup local al que me invitaron en Querétaro, México, a unas 100 millas al este. Queteraro parece estar a medio camino entre Guanajuato y Ciudad de México. Descargo de responsabilidad: Esto está sujeto a cambios ya que probablemente sea una gran parte de lo que recibo debido a la logística, retrasos en los viajes, etc.

Primero comencé a buscar la forma de conocer a los lugareños y desarrollar conexiones desde allí. Espero que sea una experiencia más auténtica en comparación con un evento guiado o preparado. Anteriormente había utilizado Meetup.com para realizar excursiones en kayak por la costa y pensé que podría intentarlo en este viaje a México.
Mi mantra no será una expectativa, solo un deseo de salir de mi modo de planificación y estar en el momento. Capture momentos y trate de aprender un poco más sobre otro lugar, personas y más sobre mi fotografía y perspectivas personales sobre la marcha.
Olvidé mencionar: ¡Estoy increíblemente emocionado con este viaje! Espero seguir compartiendo aquí mientras voy.

Después de un día desafiante o guardar un taxi en la cabina antes del amanecer, luego de un viaje en autobús de 2 horas a Querétaro, tuve el día más increíble conociendo a nuevos amigos fotógrafos y di una breve charla improvisada. Mi conexión y mi amigo Luis, un representante de Canon en Querétaro, han sido un anfitrión increíble y vamos a hacer un photowalk el 31 de octubre, nuevamente en Querétaro. ¡Manténganse al tanto!
