Finding America: Great Basin Loop 25

National Park, Great Basin, NevadaBruce LComment

OCTOBER

Baker Creek, Johnson Lake, and Timber Creek Loop

Distance: ~ 13+  miles.  Elevation gain: ~ 3,000 ft (≈ 900 m) over the loop.

This expansive loop begins from the Baker Creek Trailhead and winds its way up past Baker Lake before climbing to the saddle that overlooks Johnson Lake, then descending along Timber Creek back toward Baker Creek Road. The terrain transitions from forested creekside walking to alpine lake vistas and ridge‑line hiking, offering broad views of the Snake Range and high‑mountain meadows. With a significant elevation gain and varied terrain, this route suits hikers looking for a fuller day in the backcountry rather than a short stroll.

What a way to wind down year 4! Long day, but, perfect weather and an all-season hike with foliage, snow and sun! Highly recommend this in the right conditions. The trail leading up to the high point would be tricky in deep snow and/or bad weather on this section of the loop.
