Finding America: Kolob Canyons in Zion

Bruce LComment

Kolob Canyons: Zion National Park

I wanted to visit some of the canyons and areas south of Hurricane, Utah. Unfortunately a heat wave hit the area and with limited solar generated air conditioning I had to revise my plans. Spring was closing out and soon the southern portion of the US was going to see it’s inevitable Summer heat.

After researching the weather forecast as well as areas of interest, I noticed that just 45 minutes north of Hurricane, the temperature was about 15 degrees cooler and the western entrance to Zion National Park via the Kolob Canyons entrance was along the way. I had been to Zion on the east side twice before and it is one of my favorite parks.

Between rest days and planning a few hikes in the park, I managed to find some amazing places. Again, with an early start and beautiful morning light, I managed to soak in the views, sounds and solitude of the lush canyon floors along the way.

The following photos were taken on several trails. In no particular order: South Fork Taylor Creek Trail, Middle Fork Taylor Canyon Trail and Kolob Arch via La Verkin Creek Trail (14 miles +, big day for me!)
