Finding America: Máquinas de aire

Air Machines

I visited the Pima Air and Space Museum over 2 days and knew as soon as I walked in this was going to be an inspirational photography shoot.

There is a lot of history at the Pima Air and Space Museum. Walking through the area you can feel the energy and witness the dedication to our fascination and commitment to take to the skies.

The volunteers the 390th Bomb Group Memorial Museum are an incredible resource. They are welcoming and shared details about the aircraft, men and women that worked and sacrificed for the nation. I appreciate their service as well as all those that have and are serving. It was an immediate connection for The Finding America Project. What was our role in the world, then and now? I hope to generate more dialogue on America today.

The following images were inspired by the detail, color, patina and unique designs of a large variety of planes. I knew that I wanted to look closely at the detail and that would hopefully become abstract canvases. Some remind me of Star Wars crafts, some just interesting texture color and shapes. I remember enjoying photographing the colors, texture and shapes in Guanajuato, Mexico and this was just as engaging.

I had a great 2 days walking around the PASM grounds. Day 2, I literally spent the entire day 9-5 walking and photographing. The images are just a few that I wanted to share.

If you can, take a look on a large screen. The subtle shadows and fine detail get somewhat lost view on a mobil device.

Extra points for guess the aircraft in the image. Comments welcome!
