Finding America: Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park

Wheeler Peak 13063 ft / 3982 m More info

Heading west from the Eastern Sierras meant I’d could re-visit Great Basin National Park and go for Wheeler Peak. The hike was pretty straight forward although a bit of expose on the final stretch over strewn boulders kept me entertained.

Wheeler Peak in the first morning light.

Looking back as I got above treeline.

The bristlecones and rock glacier are below center.

The Bristlecone/Glacier Trail

This was a great look at Wheeler Peak from up close and below as well as seeing the trees and glaciers.

Rock glacier, center. Remains of the ice glacier just above it. Skyline of Wheeler where the hiking trail leads to the summit.
