Finding America: Saguaro

Bruce LComment

The Saguaro. A mini-series. See link below for B&W as well as color galleries.

Tucson. The high desert never disappoints. The wildness and changing colors are inspiring. And for me, grounding. Speaking of color and a mini series of black and white images, click here to see the gallery of the Saguaro images. Black and white images tend to simplify the subject, but in the end, I wanted to find a way to present the Saguaro in color. I love the idea of creating a life-size prints for a gallery.

I’ve spent most of the time hiking. It’s a tough mix to enjoy the surroundings for what they are and (working) on photography. Fortunately, after repeating the mixed process and having the time to consider how I wanted to capture the things that pulled me in, Saguaros obliged to my photo sessions.

Capturing an image and trying to put something of yourself into it, takes some time to sort out what is most important personally and try to avoid the busyness that photos easily fall into. Saguaros became a mini-series. I think that helped me look for a more considered approach.

All this while trying to figure out how to make the most out of my full-time vanlife shooting photos or otherwise. Not as an easy transition to have a mostly formulaic “home-life” for most of my adult life. The weather has been amazing almost every day. In the back of my mind, I think Tucson or Arizona in general is a perfect way to set the pace for my Finding America Project. I’ll write more on that side of things in a future post.

More on the Saguaros here.
